About

BARC has been a part of the Bristol community since 1957. The organization started as part of a national grassroots movement – parents across the country decided, against medical advice at the time, that they didn’t want their children committed to institutions. They felt strongly that their children should remain as part of their communities. We shifted as these children grew to supporting adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

BARC has three day programs and 12 homes here in Bristol, and we serve individuals from central Connecticut. In addition to day and residential supports, we also have a recreation program that also provides much needed respite for family caregivers.

You can support BARC in many ways - join us for lunch, Monday - Friday, at the Hidden Cafe at 621 Jerome Avenue. You can attend our fundraising events and sign up for more information about BARC.

We truly believe that BARC is #whereyoucanByourbest.
