Optometric Assistant/ Technician

Summary:
The Optometric Assistant/Technician plays a crucial role in supporting optometrists in providing comprehensive eye care services. This position involves assisting with patient care, performing preliminary eye tests, maintaining patient records, and ensuring the smooth operation of the eyecare office. The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and a passion for helping others.

Duties and Responsibilities 
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

Office Environment & Procedures-

  • Assist with the execution of company events including, but not limited to, holiday parties, sales, fundraisers, team building events, celebrations, etc.
  • Fill in and assist office staff as needed
  • Open/close office
  • Office appearance/cleaning -especially exam rooms, special testing and contact lens area
  • Manage referrals and prior authorizations
  • Maintain service agreements, ensure equipment is in working order, arrange service as needed.
  • Assist with the filing and reconciling of insurance forms
  • Follow-up calls as needed by doctor
  • Order and maintain brochures, handouts
  • Recall overview
  • Prepare exam room for patient
  • Gather patient history
  • Pre-testing
  • Neutralization of current glasses prescription
  • Special Testing
  • Assist doctor as needed
  • Assist with frame and lens selection, adjusting and repairs and lab orders
  • Notify and appoint patients of materials ready for dispensing
  • Inventory, order and price contact lenses
  • Contact lens training
  • Manage trial contact lenses in cooperation with doctor
  • Order and maintain contact lens brochures/handouts
  • Inventory and maintain contact lens solutions/supplies
  • Contact lens ordering
  • Scheduling of patients
  • Update staff of changes/trends in contact lenses
  • Figure and post fees and payments
  • Present and implement payment plans/service agreements
  • Manage invoices
  • Maintain social media communication in accordance with the social media policy

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Certification as an Optometric Technician preferred
  • Previous experience in an eyecare setting is a plus
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Proficiency in using electronic health records (EHR) systems
  • Ability to Multitask

The noise level in the work environment is usually low.
